Manager of Girls Basketball

James Gould, “Coach G,” is a dynamic leader in youth sports development and currently serves as Manager of Girls Grassroots Basketball at The St. James. In this role, he oversees programs for Potomac Valley Thunder and The St. James, emphasizing skill development, mentorship, and community engagement.

Coach G is also the Director of Recruiting and Assistant Coach for the Girls Basketball Program at The St. James Performance Academy, where he helps identify, develop, and mentor elite-level talent. With over a decade of coaching experience at the grassroots, high school, and national level, he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to every athlete he works with.

Most recently, he served as an Assistant Coach for the nationally ranked girls varsity basketball team at Sidwell Friends School, working alongside Naismith and USA Today Coach of the Year Tamika Dudley to win back-to-back state and national titles. He also led Sidwell’s varsity softball team to its first-ever back-to-back league championships as Head Coach.

Off the court, Coach G has held leadership roles with Gatorade, Under Armour, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he focused on market development, community engagement, and expanding access to sports through grant programs and partnerships with organizations like Girls on the Run and Fight for Children. He holds a Master’s in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Canisius College.

Known for his energy on the court and commitment to helping athletes succeed, Coach G is passionate about empowering young players and creating meaningful pathways for student-athletes to thrive in college and beyond.
